Completion of 920-147 MCD-Introduction to the Hebrew Bible

The subject examines the Book of Genesis, in light of various critical methods. Attention will be given to literary sources and editing, religious issues, anthropological approaches to the text, and contemporary postcolonial interpretation.

• be able to analyze primary data and reflect on hypotheses about them;

• be able to empathetically represent alternative points of view;

• be able to communicate ideas and arguments by means of essays and oral presentations;

• be able to show critical self-awareness of one's own beliefs and prejudices through engagement with the ideas of others.

A paper of 2000 words 40% (due mid-semester), an essay of 2000 words 40% (due at the end of semester), 2000 words of critical reflections on readings 20% (due at the end of semester).
