Subject Description | This subject will introduce students to the literature and history of the early Christian Church and to exegetical method through the use of selected texts from the New Testament. Topics will include the canon of the New Testament, the historical and social world of the New Testament era, Synoptic studies (particularly the gospel of Mark), and critical exegetical method. Students who complete this subject should be able to understand the processes which produced the New Testament writings, identify sources and traditions within the New Testament, and use contemporary methods in New Testament exegesis. |
