Note | This subject is compulsory for all students enrolled in the U21 Certificate in Global Issues. However, it does not have to be completed in the first semester of enrolment in the Certificate. The enrolment closing date is 1 September for January classes, 1 July for September classes. This subject is quota restricted and places are allocated as applications are received at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Final results for this subject are usually available in March (for on-line classes held in September) and June (for on-line classes held in January/February). |

Subject Description | This subject introduces different theoretical, national, political, legal, historical and cultural perspectives on 'citizenship' and its associated rights and responsibilities. It also explores whether a real possibility for 'globalness' exists, and will examine the potential for development of 'global ethics'. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words (100%) comprising weekly thematic modules, on a WebCT course management platform, weekly discussions and assignments, and collaboration on a team project with peers from different disciplines and institutions. |
