Subject Description

This subject is designed to familiarise students with the theoretical and practical aspects of small press and literary journal publishing. It will be a hands-on project in which students will be involved with and at times responsible for selection, editing, design, promotion and production of a publication. The projects under this subject will be of interest to students wishing to investigate the ethical, theoretical, political and historical issues related to literary publishing and to gain experience in a publishing/editing environment. A number of students will become the editing group for the SCA journal VIVID.

Assessment

Students working in small groups will be assessed on their effective participation (completion of set tasks by deadlines; attendance at planning, practical, and evaluation sessions; production of reports when requested; prompt communication with other students and coordinator; showing initiative) 40% and a full report on activities with an analytical essay totalling 4000 words detailing their reading, reflections and experience 60% (due throughout the semester).
