760-222 Media Production: Photography

A quota of 20 students per class applies.

Completion of 760-113 Digital Imaging/Photography or 760-127 Media Arts Production 1 (2000) or 760-134 2D Practice: Space, Light and Shadows (1999) or equivalent.

This subject involves a practical study of photographic composition, image manipulation and an introduction to digital printing and more advanced darkroom techniques. Topics will include portraiture, studio lighting, basic colour theory, image manipulation, macro photography and health and safety in the darkroom. Analogue and digital techniques may be used. Photographic images will be analysed with reference to historical context, genre, social and cultural context and technique.

Class participation and work equivalent to 4000 words comprising four photo assignments 60% (due during semester) and a folio of six related prints 40% (due at the end of semester).
