Subject Description | This subject examines the theories underpinning 'realist' acting and production techniques. Particular attention is given to the new theatre initiated by Ibsen, Chekhov and others, to the rival symbolist theatre and the acting techniques developed by Stanislavski and Strasberg. Consideration is also given to the historical and cultural context in which these theories developed, parallel developments in related cultural fields, and their continuing impact on actor training and performance techniques in contemporary theatre practice. Participants are required to apply realist acting and production techniques to the building of an actual performance. |
