Subject Description | Students of this subject will study principles of the craft of scriptwriting for theatre and performance focusing on elements that distinguish theatre scripts from other genres. Students will read and analyse a variety of theatre texts. Workshop exercises will allow students to apply the principles that they have explored through the writing of a short script. |

Assessment | Written work equivalent to 4000 words comprising a script equivalent to 2500 words 70% (due end of semester, including two drafts submitted the week before and week after semester break), a 1000 word paper summarising the major points of craft 10% (due at the end of semester), a course journal charting the course, exercises, research and work undertaken in dramaturgical pairs 10% (due in the last class of semester), and two production viewings including two critiques of 250 words each 10% (due the week following the production viewing). A hurdle requirement of a minimum 80% attendance required. |
