Subject Description | Topics include song writing and individual improvisation (using piano and principle instrument); improvisation for movement; and improvisation of soundscapes. On completion of this subject, students should be able to · write original songs with clients in groups and individually · use lyric substitution and extemporisation to develop known songs for use in therapy. They should also be able to · demonstrate basic improvisation techniques using both piano and primary instrument · understand and implement improvisational methods for use in disability settings (Nordoff Robbins; Alvin; Wigram). |
Assessment | End-of-semester practical test (75%); 1500-word assignment due mid-semester (25%). |
