Subject Description

Vocal and guitar skills in the music therapy context. Basic therapeutic skills for individual and group work.

On the completion of this subject, students should be able to · play a repertoire of songs from memory that cover a range of genres · demonstrate ability to sight sing, and transpose melodies at sight· demonstrate basic guitar techniques used in song work. They should also have developed skills in · basic counselling techniques · basic group leadership skills based on the work of Yalom · music therapy group facilitation skills for work in special schools and nursing homes.

Assessment

Mid-semester practical test (voice 25%; guitar 25%); 1500-word assignment due end-of-semester (50%).
