Subject Description | A continuation of the techniques introduced in 740-385 Music Techniques 3-1. On completion of this subject, students should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the principal 20th-century compositional techniques; understand and articulate the historical context in which they emerged; compose short pieces using these techniques; appreciate the skills and problems of the compositional process; demonstrate an extended knowledge of 20th-century techniques, which may include late romantic harmony, serialism, experimentalism, minimalism, jazz/pop/music theatre, electronic music and new romanticism. |
Assessment | Regular practical and written assignments and tests (90%); attendance and participation (10%). |
