740-376 Group Music Skills 1-2

Quota subject with priority given to students enrolled in the BMus/BTeach.

In this subject, students will learn basic playing, maintenance and tuning techniques on at least one instrument from the string, woodwind, brass, voice, percussion or guitar families. They will also learn the fundamentals of group teaching techniques in string, woodwind, brass, voice, percussion or guitar. Students must choose a different instrument family for their work in this subject than chosen for 740-375 Group Music Skills 1-1.

On completion of the subject, students should be able to • perform at a basic level on one instrument from the string, woodwind, brass, voice, percussion or guitar families • apply the knowledge gained from performance to the teaching of these instruments.

Performance of 10 minutes (50%); resource folio of 2000 words (30%); composition for three to five instruments of the family under study of three minutes duration (20%).
