Subject Description

Students will develop their techniques as chamber players and study selected repertoire to performance standard.

On completion of this subject students will be able to • show technical development as chamber music players • perform selected repertoire to concert standard • demonstrate a capacity to think critically and independently in matters of corporate style, sonority, balance, ensemble, phrasing, blending and musical gesture • identify the broad and diverse cultural references of the chamber music literature • apply time and people management skills to rehearsal and performance planning • utilise teamwork skills in rehearsal/performance groups numbering from two to ten persons.

Assessment

Ensembles must have received a minimum of three 1-hour tutorials in order to sit for the chamber music exam. Satisfactory attendance and participation (30%); concert presentation of two smaller works or one large-scale work at the end of semester (70%).

Staff will advise students regarding choice of repertoire, the number of movements suitable for assessment presentation, and the rehearsal demands of the works undertaken.
