Subject Description

This subject is comprised of 2 modules:

Clinical Practice: Dental materials and the principles and techniques of restorative dentistry in the deciduous and permanent dentition, scaling and root debridement; the prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases in children, adolescents and young adults and the prevention and management of periodontal disease across all ages.

Specialist areas in Dentistry: Specialist areas of dentistry including periodontics, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry.

Assessment

(1) One 2-hour written examination at the end of first semester, (2) One 2-hour written examination at the end of second semester, (3) Continuing assessment during the year, including pre-clinical and clinical practicum and written reports and (4) A final clinical exam and a 15-minute viva voce examination at the end of second semester. A pass is required in each of Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 for an overall pass in this subject.
