Subject Description | Health as a multidimensional construct and the opportunities for early childhood educators to promote positive social, emotional, physical and mental health. The health status of Australian children - the differentials and determinants. Issues relating to the health of young children including common childhood illnesses and measures to prevent infectious diseases in childcare settings, preschools and schools. Basic concepts of nutrition, dietary guidelines and principles relating to safe food provision for children at different stages of development 0-8. Injury prevention, taking developmental levels into account in creating a stimulating but safe environment, both inside and in the playground. An introduction to regulations and accreditation guidelines as they relate to safety, health and nutrition. Ways of enhancing young children's physical and motor skill development. Movement exploration and dance will be the main focus of practical physical activity sessions. |
