Subject Description

A study of the impact of culture, ethnicity, class, gender and disability on social functioning and development. An exploration of cultural diversity, with an emphasis on ethnicity and the relationship between culture, language and early childhood development. An examination of Australian and international approaches to ethnic minority status, cultural pluralism and bilingualism. Research skill development will consist of critical analysis of the effectiveness and validity of some key social and educational policies in the light of theoretical understanding of early childhood development and the diversity of Australian society.

Assessment

Essays and assignments totalling 4000 words.
