Subject Description

This subject will provide an introduction to basic individual and group processes, as they affect people in organisations. Major theories and models in key areas of organisational behaviour will be examined; including group dynamics, motivation, stress, communication, conflict, power, strategy, structure and change management. Tutorials will emphasise the application of theories, through the use of exercises and case studies.

  • High level of development: collaborative learning; team work; interpretation and analysis; critical thinking; receptiveness to alternative ideas.

  • Moderate level of development: written communication; problem solving; application of theory to practice; synthesis of data and other information; evaluation of data and other information; accessing data and other information from a range of sources.

  • Some level of development: oral communication.

Assessment

A 2-hour examination (50%), an individual assignment totalling not more than 1000 words (10%) and group assignment(s) where each student individually contributes up to 4000 words (40%).
