Subject Description

This subject is intended to provide foundation knowledge in the theories, methods and applications in behavioural research in business information systems. Literature across the full spectrum of levels of analysis (individual, group, organisational and societal) is surveyed. The unifying theme of the subject is the study of human behaviour in the development, management, and use of information technologies in business.

  • High level of development: oral communication; written communication; statistical reasoning; application of theory to practice; interpretation and analysis; critical thinking; synthesis of data and other information; evaluation of data and other information.

  • Moderate level of development: collaborative learning; problem solving; accessing data and other information from a range of sources; receptiveness to alternative ideas.

  • Some level of development: team work; use of computer software.

Assessment

Four research papers (30%), class participation (10%), discussion leadership (20%), end-of-semester take home exam of not more than 4000 words (40%).
