Subject Description

This subject contains material intended to foster students' understanding of the processes and methods of social research, and to develop their ability to use social work practice research in a thoughtful and critical manner.

Generic Skills

  • be able to critically analyse texts and practices;

  • be able to understand social, cultural, organisational and ethical contexts of practice;

  • be able to link theory to practice in creative ways;

  • be able to communicate effectively in ways relevant to both academic and professional contexts;

  • be able to work effectively with colleagues;

  • be able to undertake independent research.

Assessment

A group poster presentation totalling 2000 words per student 60% (due in week 7) and an essay of 2000 words 40% (due at the end of semester). A hurdle requirement of a minimum 80% attendance of tutorials required.
