Subject Description

In this subject students should become aware of the range of uses of group work in social work practice and deepen their understanding of the processes that operate in small groups. Students will be given the opportunity to apply and practise their understanding in group situations.

Generic Skills

  • be able to critically analyse texts and practices;

  • be able to understand social, cultural, organisational and ethical contexts of practice;

  • be able to link theory to practice;

  • be able to communicate in speech and writing in ways relevant to both academic and practice contexts;

  • be able to undertake independent research.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4,000 words which will include a record of observations of a small group 35%, a brief paper 30%, and a session plan 35% (all due at end of semester).
