Subject Description

This subject involves the study of advanced modern literary texts, including the study of contemporary Hebrew writers in prose and poetry, modern conversational idiom and newspaper and academic articles. Creative writing in Hebrew is also introduced. On completion of the subject students should have acquired a knowledge of advanced literary texts in Hebrew. Students' reading skills and understanding of advanced scientific and academic articles and essays are further developed to enrich their knowledge of the modern written and spoken idiom in Israel today.

Generic Skills

  • be able to absorb and communicate knowledge through submission of essays and presentation of topics in class discussion;

  • have an improvement of written and oral skills and develop research skills to obtain critical material dealing with prose and poetry studied as well as scientific data presented in the area of social background, politics, culture and history;

  • have established groundwork for leading group discussion and teaching.

Assessment

Written essays totalling 3000 words 50% (due throughout the semester), a translation test 10% (at the end of semester), and a written examination 40% (at the end of semester).
