Subject Description

This subject teaches students to read Ancient Hebrew of the biblical period. It covers word formation, grammatical concepts, and the reading of simple texts. Students are introduced to the historical developments of the language up to the present time and the historical background to the texts read. The aim is for students to acquire the elements of the grammar, syntax and vocabulary of Ancient Hebrew, and attain reading skills, sufficient to begin reading simple texts.

Assessment

Written work totalling 2000 words. Weekly vocabulary tests 5%, weekly exercises 20%, a 5-minute oral test 10%, a mid-semester exam 30% and an end of semester exam 35%.
