Subject Description

This subject examines the dramatic change in world-view that took place within the intellectual elite of Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, with a focus on the scientific dimensions of this change.

Generic Skills

  • develop skills in written and oral communication;

  • conduct independent research;

  • make appropriate use of primary and secondary sources in mounting an argument;

  • form defensible judgements based on a critical evaluation of conflicting evidence.

Assessment

A research essay of 5000 words (100%) due during the examination period.
