Subject Description | This subject explores the immense changes which occurred in western Europe from 1000 to about 1350. It focuses on the critical social, political, religious dynamics of the period. It will involve such topics as the growth of urban centres, developments within monastic culture, the crusades, the struggle between Popes and secular rulers, the elaboration of chivalry in European courts and the social and economic devastation caused by the Black Death. |
