Subject Description

This subject involves an extension of the work done in Beginners German A and B. During the subject students will endeavour to command a knowledge of the principal grammatical structures of the German language and attain the capacity to apply these in writing. On completion of the subject students should be able to read and evaluate a wide variety of texts ranging from newspaper items to journal articles, short stories and poems. Students should achieve the level of language competency required for admittance into 126-005 Intermediate German A.

Generic Skills

  • have developed further speaking and listening skills in a foreign language;

  • be able to work efficiently as a team member;

  • have an understanding of social and cultural diversity.

Assessment

A 3-hour examination 70% (during the examination period) and short weekly assignments and fortnightly vocabulary tests totalling 1000 words 30% (throughout the semester). Students need to attend at least 80% of the classes to be admitted to the examination.
