Subject Description | This subject consists of two 1-hour special studies units and a 1-hour language seminar. Students will be introduced to important cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of the German language. Students will be given the opportunity to develop topics of interest within these general areas and will be introduced to a variety of specialist terminology. The objectives of the special studies units vary according to the option chosen. In the language seminar students will learn the skills to read and interpret more complex texts in German and will reflect on these texts at a sophisticated level in both written and spoken German. Students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into 126-017 German 2 (Core) A and 126-015 German 2B. If proceeding to German at third-year level, students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into 126-006 German 3 Intermediate (Core) A and 126-021 German 3 Intermediate B or 126-018 German 3 (Core) A and 126-019 German 3B. |

Assessment | For the special studies units, two 1-hour written exams or written work totalling 2000 words 75%. For the language seminar, a twenty-minute seminar presentation (10%) and written work totalling 1000 words (15%). |
