Subject Description

In this course, students will be introduced to some important political and cultural revolutions in Latin America and Spain. Topics studied range from 20th century Afro-Cuban poetry to ETA, the Basque terrorist group in Spain.

Generic Skills

  • to increase knowledge of the Hispanic world through study of political and cultural evolutions;

  • to develop reading skills in literary Spanish;

Assessment

Three pieces of written homework (due throughout semester), a 15 minutes oral presentation (due during semester) and five mini quizzes - totalling 50%, and two 1-hour written exams of 500 words 50% (due mid-semester and at the end of the semester).
