Subject Description

This subject is a reading course on Chinese legal documents. Students will be given a guided introduction to a variety of legal documents, including the Chinese constitution, decrees, communiques, tax legislation, and contracts. Special attention will be paid to current developments to PRC legislation on intellectual property and the electronic media. The style of Chinese legal documents will be analysed, as will issues in the legal interpretation of such documents and professional presentation to Anglophone clients or employers.

Assessment

Five assignments 8% each (commencing in week 2 and due at the end of semester), a term project of 2500-3000 words for 2nd and 3rd year and 3500-4000 words for 4th year and postgraduates 50% (due during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10%.
