Subject Description | In this subject students will learn to translate from Chinese to English. The selection of texts will be limited to modern literature and to documents and news items on politics and international affairs because students can be expected to have gained previous experience in the reading and translating of material of these two genres. In their translations students will learn to focus on accuracy as well as stylistic appropriateness and will be encouraged to submit both individual and group work. |

Assessment | Class work totalling 1000 words 20% (due weekly in class), four written translations totalling 2000 words 40% (due at intervals during semester) and a 2-hour examination 40% (due during the examination period). |
