Subject Description

This subject involves an independent translation of a Chinese text equivalent to approximately 5000 words in English translation. Students will be asked to submit an English translation of a Chinese text, chosen by the student and approved by the supervisor, by the end of first semester. By the end of the subject students should have become familiar with the techniques and standards of literary translation, and be able to incorporate them into their theses.

  • acquire written communication skills through assignment preparation and writing;

  • show attention to detail through close reading and textual analysis;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads.

Assessment

A translation project of 5000 words 100% (due at the end of semester).
