Subject Description

This subject focuses on Chinese theatre in contemporary China and the study of important chapters of selected Chinese scripts. In practical classes, students will learn and practise basic skills necessary for performing the various roles in the scripts studied in lectures. By the end of the subject, students should be able to demonstrate improved skills in the performance of Chinese plays, in reading and analysing Chinese dramas, and an understanding of the major developments in the Chinese theatre in contemporary China.

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A short essay of 1500 words 35% (due early semester), class work totalling 1000 words 25% (due throughout the semester), and a 20-minute role play performance 40% (due at the end of semester).
