Subject Description | This subject is an accelerated course for students who speak a dialect of Chinese but who cannot read or write Chinese characters or speak Mandarin. By the conclusion of this subject students should have reached approximately the same level as 110-145 Introductory Chinese 1B. They should be able to speak with acceptable standard pronunciation and read and write at least 600 characters, and write essays. |

Assessment | Homework 1000 words 20% (due weekly), short tests 20% (in week 6 and week 10), a 2-hour final examination 50% (during the examination period) and continuous class participation 10%. |
