Subject Description

This is a beginners' post-introductory Japanese subject. This subject enhances skills that enable students to communicate in Japanese and to manage daily life in Japan. Further basic Japanese sentence patterns, vocabulary and expressions are introduced, as well as another 75 basic kanji (Chinese characters). This subject also includes various aspects of Japanese culture that are relevant to effective communication.

Generic Skills

  • gain skills in time management and planning through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • gain skills in public speaking through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations

Assessment

A 2-hour final examination 50% (due during the examination period), one oral test 15% (due late in semester), a listening test 15% (due mid in semester), a composition/a project work 20% (due mid and late in semester).
