Subject Description

This subject involves advanced spoken and written Chinese for students who have completed 110-121 Standard Chinese 2A. By the conclusion of this subject students should be able to independently read a variety of original Chinese materials and to conduct discussions in Chinese on social and cultural issues.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

A mid-semester test 10%, an oral presentation 20% (at the end of semester), class participation 10%, a final 2-hour examination 60% (during the examination period).
