110-120 Standard Spoken Chinese 1A

Students who have completed Standard Chinese 1A prior to 2002 are not eligible to enrol in this subject.

Students must be concurrently enrolled in 110-180 Standard Chinese 1A.

On completion of the subject students should develop a good knowledge of the Pinyin system of romanisation, and be able to conduct conversation in Chinese on a limited range of subjects.

• acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

• acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

• acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

• show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing.

Listening comprehension tests 20% (weekly in class), a 30-minute final listening comprehension test 30% (at the end of semester), an oral presentations 20% (weekly in class) and a 10 minute final oral test 30% (during the examination period).
