A 1-hour lecture and a 1-hour tutorial per week

Subject Description

On completion of the subject students should develop a good knowledge of the Pinyin system of romanisation, and be able to conduct conversation in Chinese on a limited range of subjects.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing.

Assessment

Listening comprehension tests 20% (weekly in class), a 30-minute final listening comprehension test 30% (at the end of semester), an oral presentations 20% (weekly in class) and a 10 minute final oral test 30% (during the examination period).
