Subject Description

In this subject students will consolidate the skills developed in 110-079 Indonesian Level 4A. Students should be able to read Indonesian texts of different styles and registers, and to write a fairly nuanced essay in formal Indonesian, demonstrating sensitivity to the complexity of Indonesian social life and language.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

Class participation 10% (ongoing); oral presentation for class discussion on assigned reading materials 10% (during the semester); a written test in class 500 words or 600 words for postgraduate 10% (mid-semester); speech 10-minutes, 12 minutes for postgraduate 10% (mid semester), long essay 1,000 words or 1,700 words for postgraduate 20%; and final examination (two hours) 40% (examination period). Second and third-year students are required to attend a minimum of 80 per cent of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
