Subject Description

In this subject emphasis is placed on more sophisticated spoken and written Indonesian and on consolidating and expanding knowledge of Indonesian culture. The subject is designed around topics that enable students to develop through discussion a better understanding of Indonesian society, and to be articulate on these topics in Indonesian. Students should be able to hold simple conversations in Indonesian, read simple texts with the help of a dictionary, and write simple essays in Indonesian.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

Three tests 30% (due early semester, mid-semester and late semester), an essay of 750 words 10% (due late semester), an oral examination 10% (due during the examination period) and a 2-hour final written examination 50% (due during the examination period). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
