110-028 Introductory Chinese 2A and 110-130 Spoken Introductory Chinese 2A or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Subject Description

This is a post-elementary subject in Chinese for students who have completed 110-028 Introductory Chinese 2A. By the conclusion of this subject students should have mastered the basic grammatical structures of Modern Chinese and have a vocabulary of approximately 1200 characters.

Generic Skills

  • have and enhanced understanding of the principles of communicative structure with the acquisition of more elaborate content and new patterns;

  • be able to integrate recognizing structural patterns, producing one's own utterances, emulating models, and disciplined acquisition of words as a comprehensive learning strategy;

  • acquire basic cultural knowledge as the basis for international awareness;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for class preparation, revision and assignment completion.

Assessment

A mid-semester test 20%, a composition test 20% (in the last week of semester), a final 2-hour exam 50% (during the examination period) and ongoing class participation 10%.
