The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching aims to provide a high quality pathway for the preparation of secondary teachers in the physical sciences and information technology. Students in the combined degree program start their Education studies in the second year of the program and obtain their teaching qualification at a degree, rather than diploma level.
The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching is normally completed over four years of full-time study. Part-time study is only available before entering the third year of the program.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching course must accumulate a minimum (and Maximum) of 400 points. Within the 400 points students must satisfy the minimum requirements for both the Bachelor of Science component and the Bachelor of Teaching component. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that she/he meets the requirements of the combined BSc/BTeach by enrolling in the correct number of subjects at the appropriate year level and within the rules outlined in this Handbook.
Bachelor of Teaching students complete a minimum of 45 days of supervised practice teaching in schools plus an extended internship in final year. Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching students should note that they are expected to meet their practicum commitments when these may occur in semester breaks at the same time as some science subjects are offered on an intensive basis.
In 2007, students in year 3 of the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Teaching course begin classes in the week beginning 19 February.
Details of semester dates and school experience placements are available from the Faculty of Education Student Centre-Professional Practice.
