The enrolment closing date for this subjects is 1 September. This subject is quota restricted and places are allocated as applications are received at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Final results for this subject are usually available in September (for on-line classes held in January to April).

Admission to the U21 Certificate in Global Issues and enrolment at UBC before the quota is filled.

This is a fully tutored, web based subject that focuses on planning and preparing for work in a developing country. The class will discuss the causes of ill health amongst populations living in poverty and analyses available solutions. A health science background is not essential.

Written work totalling 4000 words (100%) comprising weekly thematic modules, on a WebCT course management platform, weekly discussions and assignments, and collaboration on a team project with peers from different disciplines and institutions.
