Subject Description

This subject focuses on modern Hebrew literary texts, and modern conversational idiom and grammar. At the completion of this subject students should have an enriched knowledge of the language through the use of modern Hebrew literature, of the modern idiom spoken in Israel today and its vocabulary, grammar and syntax, and be prepared for a broader range of expertise.

Generic Skills

  • have written communication through essay presentations;

  • have exposure to critical ideas through reading of new literature and its revelance to social and political as well as historical realities;

  • have confidence in self expression through participation in class discussion;

  • have established groundwork for leading group discussions and teachings.

Assessment

Written essays totalling 1500 words 37% (commencing at the beginning of semester and due at the end of semester), an oral exam 7% (due at the end of semester), dictation and comprehension 6% (due at the end of semester) and a written examination 50% (due at the end of semester).
