126-144 Beginners Swedish A.

This subject is an introduction to the Swedish language. It focuses on the acquisition of basic reading and writing skills, with emphasis placed on vocabulary and on the basic principles of grammar. Students will develop an understanding of the structure of Swedish so that they can read and write simple texts in Swedish. On completion of the subject, students should have achieved the level of competence required for admittance to 126-146 Beginners Swedish C and 126-147 Beginners Swedish D.

• be able to work efficiently as a team member and have an understanding of social and cultural diversity.

A 2-hour written examination 50% (end of the semester), weekly assignments totalling 1000 words 20% (throughout the semester) and a 1-hour mid-term test 30% (during the semester).
