Regular contact with the supervisor over two consecutive semesters of enrolment

Subject Description

An approved topic/research project selected in consultation with the supervisor/s. The student will also write a research proposal and give an oral presentation on the proposed research.

Generic Skills

  • possess the following generic skills:

  • Thinking critically (for example, about geography and its measures);

  • Obtaining information to evaluate propositions (about some principles in geography);

  • Writing a coherent and empirically substantiated research paper;

  • Defending that paper.

Assessment

A thesis of 15,000 words 100% (due in the second semester of enrolment). Hurdle requirement: a 2000 word research proposal, a 30-minute oral presentation and attendance at departmental research seminars.
