Subject Description

Students who complete this subject should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of a particular topic in Italian, French or Spanish culture or linguistics, and demonstrate the ability to analyse and to report on their reading in a manner appropriate to the methodology adopted. Available topics will be posted during the semester preceding the one in which this subject is available.

Generic Skills

  • acquire particular generic skills:

  • understanding of social, political, historical and cultural contexts and international awareness/openness to the world: through the contextualisation of judgements and knowledge, developing a critical self-awareness, being open to new ideas and new aspects of French and Italian culture, and by formulating arguments;

  • communicating knowledge intelligibly and economically: through essay and assignment writing, tutorial discussion and class presentations;

  • public speaking and confidence in self-expression: through tutorial participation and class presentations.

Assessment

A class paper (15 minute oral presentation) followed by a 1500-word written submission 30% (due during the semester), and an essay of 2500 words for 3rd year, 3500 words for 4th year 70% (due at the end of the semester).
