Subject Description

As for 116-151 Italian Part 1:Language & Culture A.

Generic Skills

  • acquire particular generic skills;

  • understanding of social, political, historical and cultural contexts and international awareness/openness to the world: through the contextualisation of judgements and knowledge, developing a critical self-awareness, being open to new ideas and new aspects of French and Italian culture, and by formulating arguments;

  • communicating knowledge intelligibly and economically: through essay and assignment writing, tutorial discussion and class presentations;

  • public speaking and confidence in self-expression: through tutorial participation and class presentations.

Assessment

Continuous assessment throughout the semester which includes small exercises and class tests 30%. Two oral presentations, one individual, one as a group 15%. Multimedia activities, including small exercises and email exchange, 15% commencing at the start of the semester and due at the end of the semester. A research project (either individual or in groups)20% (commencing at the beginning of the semester and due at the end of the semester). A 1.5-hour written exam 20% (due during the exam period).
