110-225 Chinese Theatre

110-042 Standard Chinese 3B or equivalent as determined by the coordinator.

This subject focuses on Chinese theatre in contemporary China and the study of important chapters of selected Chinese scripts. In practical classes, students will learn and practise basic skills necessary for performing the various roles in the scripts studied in lectures. By the end of the subject, students should be able to demonstrate improved skills in the performance of Chinese plays, in reading and analysing Chinese dramas, and an understanding of the major developments in the Chinese theatre in contemporary China.

A short essay of 1000 words for 2nd year and 2000 words for 3rd year 40% (due at the end of semester), class exercises 20% (due throughout the semester), and a 20-minute role play performance 40% (due during the examination period).
