Subject Description | In this subject, significant topics in Japanese society will be introduced through authentic texts such as articles from Japanese newspapers, magazines and internet, and also to comprehend extracts of semi-naturally occurring conversations between Japanese native speakers. The subject focuses on current trends and issues in Japanese society from cross-cultural perspectives. Students are encouraged to use web-based learning tools such as on-line dictionaries and machine translation in this process. Students will engage in activities such as discussion and essay writing. On completion of the subject, students should be able to use learning tools effectively and independently to decode authentic texts; and gain a sociocultural understanding on Japan. |
