Subject Description

This subject involves continued development of sophisticated spoken and written Indonesian, consolidating and expanding students' knowledge of Indonesian culture. On completion of the subject students should be able to hold simple conversations in Indonesian about a variety of topics, including daily life and current issues in Indonesian culture and society. Students should also be able to read general newspaper articles and simple short stories in Indonesian with the help of a dictionary and to write informal letters and short essays.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for reccommended reading, essay and assignment completion.

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations.

Assessment

Three tests 30% (early semester, mid-semester and late semester), an essay of 750 words 10% (due late semester), oral examination 10% (due during the examination period) and a 2-hour final written examination 50% (due during the examination period). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
