Subject Description

This subject involves advanced spoken and written Chinese. By the conclusion of this subject students should have built on the knowledge of Chinese gained in their first year and be able to read original Chinese material on current affairs as well as simple literary texts. They should be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on topics of general interest.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion.

Assessment

A mid-semester test 10%, an oral presentation 20% (due at the end of semester), a class participation 10% and a final 2-hour examination 60% (due during the examination period).
