110-028 Introductory Chinese 2A and 110-130 Spoken Introductory Chinese 2A or equivalent as determined by the coordinator. New students may not enrol unless they have attended an interview and/or taken a placement test in the week preceding the first week of semester.

Subject Description

This is a second-level beginners course in spoken Chinese to complement 110-029 Introductory Chinese 2B. Students at the end of this course should have sufficient listening and speaking skills to cope with everyday situations in China.

Generic Skills

  • acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;

  • acquire public speaking skills through tutorial and seminar discussion and class presentations;

  • show attention to detail through essay preparation and writing;

  • acquire time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads for recommended reading, essay and assignment completion.

Assessment

An ongoing class participation 10%, a 30-minute listening comprehension test 40% (due during the examination period) and a 10-minute oral test 50% (during the examination period).
