Subject Description

In this subject students revise the basic elements covered in Semester 1, and are introduced to more complex grammar and syntax, as well as some of the issues involved in interpreting an ancient language. Increasingly difficult texts are read from a variety of sources. By the end of the subject students should have a sufficient grasp of the language to read texts of moderate difficulty with vocabulary assistance.

  • be able to think in theoretic terms;

  • be familiar with the communication conventions of another culture.

Assessment

Short tests in lectures 10%, weekly grammar exercises 25%, a 1-hour assessment test 25% (due mid-semester), a 1-hour examination 30% (due at the end of semester) and tutorial participation 10%. Hurdle requirements: students must attend 75% of tutorials and complete the assessment test and final exam in order to be eligible for final assessment.
